The Day Life Changed

On March 29 2010 Evan was driving to work when his tire blew which pulled him to the right and caused his Explorer to roll. He was badly injured. He broke C-5 C-6 in his neck and is now parlayed from the neck down. If the UPS drive had not been behind Evan he would of not been found until morning because he rolled off the road far enough no one would of seen his Explorer. Our life for the Evan Sleight family has been changed forever and we are now learning how to take care of Evan. This blog is to show our ups and downs on our new journey.

And the journey also contiues with our family now that it has been two years almost three. We still have our ups and downs just like all families do.

Well we have a new family picture for the year. It has been a while since we had a picture. It is hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner and the New Year is upon us. Evan health has been doing really well, even with the cold he is still doing well. I think that his body is finally getting us to the new way things are going to be. Logan, Marlene, Brittney, and Christopher are ready for school break. Tresithney and Sariah turned five on December 8th and are starting to help me with things that Evan need. All the kids are great help with the help Evan needs. I could not do this without them. I also could not do this without the prayers and support we have with all are friends and family THANK YOU! Have a Happy Holiday and a Wonderful New Year! Love from the Sleights

Another year coming to a close.

Well this year is getting closer to the end and a New Year is underway. We have had a pretty busy year and have stayed away from hospital stays for Evan which is nice. It has been a good healthy year for Evan. We are so grateful for all of the family and friends we have. Logan has successfully finished off another year of football and in the spring will start track. He is right now doing swing club and is thinking about doing another play. Marlene is in a honors club and is going to do track this spring. She really loves her classes at school and is doing well. Brittney is enjoying school. She plans to go out for the school play. She also plans to do track in the spring. Christopher is doing well in school. He is doing well with scouts and at the rate he is going will have his Eagle before Logan. Tresithney and Sariah are doing preschool this year and are really having a lot of fun. As for me I am trying to keep up with all the actives the kids have and help Evan. Life gets busy at the Sleight home like everyone else. It seems we are starting to adjust to the changes that have happened in the last year and a half. In March it will be two years where does the time go.

I am so happy that Evan is doing so much better. His body I think is starting to finally adjust to the changes. He still has pain and things that he still can not do. He stamina is still low and he takes naps often. It is how he makes it thru the day. He just recently got new arm rests put on to his chair and he loves them. Things are starting to get cold up here in Mantua. Evans body really rebels against the cold.

Well there are some exciting things in the mix hopefully one will come through so we can make Evan even more independent. We have put in to Habitat for Humanity and we are being nominated for Extreme Home Makeover by so really good friends. Now it is just a waiting game to see who is going to give us a answer. Keeping the fingers crossed.

We here at the Sleight home thank everyone for all the wonderful things you have done for us and all the prayers we have received it all helps. We would also like to Wish all of you a very Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We love each and everyone of you and hope all is well with you and your families.

Update

Well Colorado is was great. The adaptive Expo was really good we have seen a lot of things to improve Evan's independence. It was also good to see Dr. Hus who said to that he would like some blood work done and a few other test to see if Evan's sleep apnea is back that might be the cause of his sleepiness and for the blood pressure he wants a to try a new drug to up the pressure which I think has help him. Now if we could get the neck pain to be less he would be a lot happier man. The blood work came back normal and things seem to be doing well at the moment. Now life is giving us new test to face and new challenges. Evan and I have celebrated our 17th anniversary. I want to thank all of you for your support, love and prayers. Love Robyn

Update

Well Evans health has not been well. His body is not bouncing back from all the surgerys and illnesses. So March 13 2011 he medically retired. At this time it is the best choice but it is hard Evan really enjoys being at work with his friends. Now all the paper work is to be filed and then we have to wait for the reply back for the goverment. So now starts a new adventure for Evan and I on what to fill our days with some of it will playing with the four year olds. Tomorrow we have a doctor appointment for Evan to find out why his blood pressure keeps dropping for no reason at all and Evan then get so tired there are days all Evan does is sleep. So hopefully we will find some good news tomorrrow or can find some answers. Keep the fingers crossed. I will be able to update more now i will have a little more time on my hands. I thank you all for everything you do for us and the love and support you give to us. with all my love and thanks Robyn.

Six Month Reevaluation

Well we Returned to Craig Hospital last week for Evan's 6 month reevaluation. He still has the same level of sensation as he did when we left in August. His muscles on the right side are getting stronger and he now has a flicker on the left. He is working really hard to get the arms moving again. The right will come first. Everything else is going well. He will not have to return to Craig until a year from now so hopefully by then Evan will have movement on the right side and they can start to work with getting the arm stronger. Well I am so grateful for all of our friends, families and Evan's coworkers you are the greatest and your love and prayers are making things move forward for Evan Thank you for all you do for us.

Night Nurses

Ericka and Shana were is night nurses and my favorite. They took really great care of Evan the would do everything possible to keep Evan out of pain at night. They also would be by his side when he was in pain trying to solve the problem or making him comfortable. I did not relize how much care the would do for Evan and the hard work the did to help him until we got home and I had to do what they did. I love these to nurses alot. They were great. Shana is with Evan in his chair. Ericka is by the bed.

Day Nurses

Dee and Bic were Evan's day nurses. Dee was the one who fused over EVERYTHING which at times was very frustrating for Evan. Bic was the one who worried about everything. They were both really good for Evan. They were also very good teachers. They taught me what I needed to know for the daytime stuff of taking care of Evan.
Evan brought the fun side out of everyone he met. He made people laugh and have fun. Dee is in yellow by the bed. Bic is with Evan and I.

Doctors of Craig Hospital

These were three of Evans doctors who took great care of him. I am so grateful to them for helping Evan get to where he is today. Dr Hus was his main Doctor. Kate was his
Repertory Doctor and Dr. Spees was his diabetic doctor. Also is the bald one. Dr. Spees also would look forward to seeing the little girls again a ray of sunshine for someone at Craig Hospital. Dr. Spees was very sad when the girls went home.

Haley and Hanna

Two of our favirote Techs. They were always together. Haley was our assinged tech and was great Hanna was her sidekick when they worked togther. Haley took really good of Evan while we were at Craig Hospital. If I thought I could of stole Haley and brought her home she would be my first pick to take care of Evan if I could not. Hanna would be my next choice because she was also good to Evan and I know with these two he would be OKay. I really loved these two girls for all they did for Evan.

The Farley Family

Todd and his family were also a very special to us. From Louisiana he was injured by being buck off a mechanical bull. He had a really hard time at first when he came to Craig hospital Evan and him became really close. Todd was Evans first roommate and Evan tried hard to make Todd laugh and realize life could still go on and you could still have fun. We have even planned to return for reevaluation at the same time so we can hang out with Todd and his family.

Debbie and Bobby Byumn

This is Debbie and Bobby and their family. We became good friends with them. He was injured using one of those inversion tables. The strap that held his legs broke and he landed on his neck. They are from Texas. Tresithney and Sariah were their sunshine while we were there they always had to give Bobby hugs and kisses before we left to go to bed or when we finally brought them home. Very wonderful people.

Wheelchair Races

Well I finally got all the pictures downloaded. I will be posting things as I get thur all the Pictures for you to see the fun summer at Craig hospital. These two pics are of Evan and his good friend Todd having a wheelchair race. The would say rubbin is racin. They would put each other into the wall or the scale itwas funny to watch. You would get out of the way when you saw them line up because you knew they were going to try to fly down the hall way to see who would win. Evan was always doing stuff to make Todd laugh and to just be Evan.

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Well Evan is doing a lot better. He is doing well at work also. Things look like we might be able to stay away from the hospital until Feb. when we return to Craig Hospital for Evan's six month check up to make sure all is still moving forward. We are thankful for all our friends, Evan's coworkers and family. You all have help Evan continue to move forward with the prayers and thoughts. Thank you for all you have done for us and please keep the prayers coming our way. We love you all! Thank you! Robyn
